Shop Front: Use Our Space!

Happy news! RivelinCo recently moved into a shop front on Middlewood Road, which was formerly empty for over 20 years. The space has become our base for office work, meetings and organising, and now we’d like to share it with you!

About the space

The address is 339 Middlewood Road, Sheffield S6 1TH – it is on the row of shops opposite Asda.

Our shop front is approximately 4.1m x 5.5m, with big windows that look out onto the high street. It has white walls with a few pictures and crafts on display, and on the back wall there is a big colourful mural which was designed and painted by our friends at Artworks South Yorkshire.

It has a sofa, 12 colourful chairs, 4 folding tables, and a whiteboard and pens. It can be set up in any configuration you like. We have good, fast WiFi, and a speaker and/or a projector which you are welcome to borrow. There is a small kitchen and a small toilet.

We have a bike rack at the front of the building, and bus and tram routes stop close by. For more information about accessibility, transport and the space please click here.

What could I do there?

We would like to see the space to be used for whatever YOU decide! We’re especially interested in activities that are creative, artistic, and/or support our community. You can hire it closed (just for you or your group) or open (for the public). Here are a few ideas, but we’d also like to hear yours!

  • Maybe you’d like to start a book club, a knit and natter, or a board game group?
  • Maybe you or your group/charity need a space for a meeting or small celebration?
  • Maybe you’re an artist and you’d like to host a pop-up event, small screening, or exhibition?
  • Maybe you’d like to host a social space for tea and biscuits after a local litter pick, or you’d like to host a food bank collection afternoon?
  • Maybe you’d like to host a drop-in half term activity for children and families?
  • Or maybe you’d like to pitch something completely different…

We will not be able to fully advertise your event or activity for you, or guarantee an audience for it, but if you want us to we will include it on a What’s On poster displayed in the shop window, a listing on our website, an entry in our monthly newsletter, and we will generally be happy to share your social media posts too.

We ask that any public activities that take place do so on a free or pay-what-you-can (donations) basis.

Please note, most weekdays between 9am and 6pm the space is shared as it’s adjacent to our office, and the walls are not soundproof, so please bear this in mind when pitching your ideas.

How do I hire it and how much does it cost?

For now, the space will be available most Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 5pm, and also occasional evenings and weekends. You can book a short slot, for example a couple of hours, or a longer slot, for example a whole day or couple of days.

All hires will be on a pay-what-you-can basis, which means you can give us a donation based on what you or your group can afford. The minimum donation is £1, and there is no maximum donation. All donations received will support our arts and community work in the area – thank you!

To book, please email or give us a call on 0114 327 1670. When you send your email, please include answers to the following questions:

  • Your name (and the name of your group if relevant)
  • Your contact details (or those of your group if relevant)
  • The date/s and time/s you’d like to use the space
  • What you would like to use it for, and whether it is a ‘closed’ activity (just you/your group, e.g. a meeting) or an ‘open’ activity (e.g. for the public)
  • If the activity is for the public, who is the target audience?

Please note we reserve the right to say no to a hire if we feel it will not be suitable for the space or community, if it’s not in line with our values, or if we don’t have capacity to host it – for example we cannot commit to hires every weekend as we are a very small team.

We are recruiting!
